"Ampere's Law"
This is a single still used for the cover of a friend's physics project dealing with Ampere's Law. There were no technical limitations on the layout, she simply wanted a picture of a laser with its beam passing through lenses and being reflected by mounted mirrors.

All of the objects were modeled in 3D Studio. The beam, metals and checkerboard plane materials were all built in the materials editor using standard maps, etc. The logo on the side of the laser was created in Corel Draw! and then imported into 3DS as a bitmap and mapped onto the side of the laser's case as a decal. The fading background was accomplished through the use of distance cueing in the render scene setup.
